In a lot of cases it is. Rural America has been largely abandoned. Republicans only pretend to care, while establishment Democrats call them "flyover country."

Rural Americans with a high school degree have Walmart as their major employer.

I saw a video on YouTube of a phone conversation with a crying Conservative woman, saying how sorry she was for voting for Trump and how he “Lied” to her.
I would like to believe SOME Trump supporters have been slapped with reality and not certain how to deal with themselves.
That would a first step back to sanity.

Some have been. As the white supremacists escalate their violence, more and more people will turn against them.

I’ve had one posts from a conservatives here, who denounced Trump for his actions.
Gives me hope.

As strongly as I believe trumpsuckers must be shunned, I believe repentant trump supporters must be welcomed back into civilized society.

I've been thinking about this a lot, after reading some background on Ashli Babbit. I do believe that Trumpism is a cult, and like other cults, it preys on unstable people. This MAGA nonsense is pulling back the curtain on a huge mental/spiritual health crisis in the US. (As TwoWayMirror points out in the comment on rural America.)

There are millions of people who don't find meaning in their personal lives and are looking for a narrative to give them meaning. A "crusade", even, with all the repellant connotations of that word. Many of them are susceptible to demagogues and snake-oil salesmen.
