Aside from the centuries-long practice of book banning, I was thinking specifically about books that have been banned over the last 100 years. There is an annual event called Banned Book Week, during which times you see many readers buying books which have been subject, at one time or another, to such censorship. And while these readers are quick to promote the reading of these books -often in protest of the authoritarian dictates that originally silenced the authors- sadly, some of these same readers have no qualms whatsoever when media gags free speech.
