For image pages that have existing comments, there is an a drop-down option to sort them by Best first, Latest first or Oldest first.

That setting is just for your view on a particular page, and it's not persistent if you return to that page.

In the future, it might be good for a user to be able to select one setting globally for all the pages they visit. Personally I like seeing the latest comments at the top.

It used to be sorted by recency, but after the ability to reply was added then recency was no longer required to preserve who was replying to who. And as others have mentioned, you can still sort by recency if you want to only scan the latest/oldest comments.

Yep. You can do that. Sort it how your heart desires by clicking "best first", then choose your sorting preference.

Just yours. We all get to choose how to sort it for ourselves.

I think people should sort it how they choose. Why should the creator get to decide how we see comments? I often sort it and resort it again to see what I want to see.
