1. Seat belts objectively work. They save approximately 15,000 lives per year. Of course they aren't 100% effective, but neither are masks.
2. Driving, for many Americans is absolutely necessary for their day to day life. That's why there's not a ban on driving, but there are common sense seat belt laws, speed limits, and drunk driving laws to reduce the harm associated with driving. Similarly, for covid there should be very basic, common sense regulations like mask wearing, social distancing, and the general refrainment from non-essential activities.
