why don't the inklings die when in water in mario kart?

i honestly don't understand why they die in water in the first place since water is the first ingredient of ink

splatoon logic doesnt make sense

but its still my favorite game

the water iin splatoon is toxic so they are able to swim in mariokart (remember splatoon is dated in a post apocalypse time)

because marios water is cleaner in their time

i think it's that they can't swim and ink

but that face always gets me
