I'm trying to make the point that the far right were against desegregation. It's complicated, but the 50s were the tail end of the party switch and things were changing and evolving hard in that decade.

Governor Faubus was criticized for not being to the right enough on racial/social matters (which Eisenhower was left on); so he was under a ton of pressure by the socially right Democrats of Arkansas to keep the school segregated; he decided to keep it segregated to "prevent violence," but it was the political pressure.

I attached something I made to show that the right leaning south have ALWAYS been right leaning, but, as you can see, they switched names/colors. In fact, I might post a meme with these two maps because it shows the dramatic changes taking place between the north and south so well. I've heard a ton of Republicans claim that Democrats were pro-slavery and segregation (Democrats were the right back then).

I'm no expert so you should fact check me and read into it. That switch that took place IS complicated.
