Here's a question I wish to respectfully ask: Do you consider it homophobic if a Catholic (or similar Christian) fully supports the LGBTQ+ community when it comes to equal rights under the law (civil marriage, tax status, etc), but asks that they in turn respect the Catholic's right to disagree with them on matter such as marriage within a religion?

Legally, it's all protected under the First Amendment of course, but I'm just fishing for answers here. If you see this comment elsewhere it's because I'm copy/pasting it and trying to build a good set of answers.

i wouldn't consider it homophobic. i mean, there are definitely more extreme christians (for example there was this guy i found who believed that being gay or trans should basically be illegal)

Yeah, that's a very un-Christian belief to hold (imprisoning others).

well, he may have been christian, i'm pretty sure he was, but he might have just been a dick.

Since one cannot be both of those, and in light of his actions, I'm quite certain it was the latter. ;)

I'm Roman Catholic, and we have a very set-in-stone set of beliefs and a unified worldview (at least officially), but being Christian makes someone no less human, and humans can make mistakes. We in the Church are still battling that disgusting wave of sexual abuse scandals (the ugly result of human error made as far back as the 60's), so we're definitely not first in line to claim the 'perfect people' title.

Some folks simply cannot separate their secular and religious views.

I don't know how to answer that, make it oversimplified.

Uh, hm...basically is it rude to hold your own beliefs but not force them on others?

(I think you probably saw this question posted elsewhere, that was you with the sus memes, right?)

Yeah, and it is not rude to hold your beliefs and not force them on to others. Quite the opposite, actually.

Well it looks like my trip to this stream was a resounding success. You guys are much nicer than the usual ilk I encounter in the Politics stream.

I'm not personally LGBTQ+, I'm just a kid wanting the world, or at least America, to be equal.

Keep that dream alive my young friend, we need more people like you. Anyone, conservative or liberal, who attempts to enforce their views on those who disagree have forgotten what this country is all about. If we can do well here in America, the rest of the world (or at least a lot of it) will pay attention and follow suit. :)

Thank you, and I wish the same on to you.

Hell no it's the opposite of rude if you hold onto your own beliefs, it's up to you whether you believe something or not. Though a smart and wise man keeps an open mind to other beliefs
