To be fair, that whole thing DID have its origins in the First World War, and the whole thing could have been avoided with proper diplomatic effort in 1914.

One thing leads to another. Saying "what if" has no real meaning after the fact, unless you're trying to learn something from it...something that doesn't appear to actually happen in global politics. Bankrupting countries, leaving power vacuums, installing puppet governments...all still happening. Evil is a constant. So is Good.

When one thing leads to another...and the "another" is Nazi Germany, then the next thing down the line has to be something that works. Diplomacy was tried early on and before WW2, to no avail. Evil regimes will take what you give them and keep coming for more, unless you give them destruction. All the hashtags and photo ops won't change that.
