They're only poisonous in the wild. Something they eat in the wild produces the toxin. A friend who knows more about it than me than me says that scientists don't know much about them in tbeir native habitat because they come from a very small area of S. America that's controlled by cartels. Can't confirm that, though. I didn't really handle them though, because they're really fragile and subject to soaking up things that might hurt them from a persons hands...ironic, huh.
