The best that can be said for Peterson is that some of his opinions help him interface with the alt-right and can therefore help “deradicalize” insane right-wingers who aren’t going to listen to anybody else. Or so it’s been theorized.
Then again, it could be the case that Peterson is a gateway drug for those traveling from a mainstream egalitarian outlook on the world into alt-right territory.
He’s charismatic, some of his ideas are pretty sound and unobjectionable, he’s better than Sean Hannity or Ben Shapiro, but the main thing that drives the clicks and the attention to him is the same. The deliberate provocations and the “owning the libz.” The blathering about “cultural Marxism” is total rubbish. Strip away the pretty outer wrapping and what you get is warmed-over Freudian psychoanalysis and a Joseph Campbell view of the world in which heroic men shape the course of history and everyone else ought to get out of the way. These ideas have been pretty well debunked over the last half-century of serious philosophy and political science.
Either way, his overall outlook and approach is not a lot of use to fully-fledged mature thinking adults. The proof is in the pudding of what kind of characters are drawn to him.
