Yes it is. It has it's own flag, it's own government and it's own language. When Spain lost the Spanish American War, Spain ceded all the US Territories in reparations for damages to the US. We granted independence to the Philippines which we bought from Spain for $20 million, after Philippine insurgents who fought against Spain fought us for independence. Cuba became a U.S. protectorate. The other nations were too small to fight us like the Philippines, so they remained nations that were called US Territories. I hope you enjoyed this brief history lesson our schools don't teach. At least students know how evil the founders were.

No not at all! And politically they can't really leave. There were some attempts at successipn a number of years back that the US squashed politically. Each one of the territories has military implications and serve as forward bases, (Even the Marshall Islands). Too totally cede from the US would involve an armed conflict, Grenada isn't a great example, but when Marxists kidnapped those US medical students, we asserted our national interest. We provide so much financial control over them that to sever ties would put their welfare states into instant bankruptcy.
What this meme is really about is that Schumer is threatening to make Puerto Rico and DC states to add 4 solidly democrat senators to Congress in perpetuity so Republicans never have a hope of advancing conservative ideals. He could even try to add the other territories and we would never see another republican of any significance. Conservatives have long been attacked as imperialists, colonialists (racist, bigot, homophobe, xenophobe, phobe phobe, ad naseum), so I'm throwing the same accusations back at them since Schumer is a visible target right now. Hypocrisy is always ripe for ridicule.

I stopped reading novels decades ago because of a preference for history, things that were real. There is so much history to choose from, mastering any of them would take more than a lifetime. I dabbled enough with Greek, Roman and European history to have a modest foundation for how they influenced later events, but other than that, most I read is US and Western Hemisphere. Last series of books was centered on Crazy Horse and Custer (then Bill O'Reilly came out with a book on Crazy Horse- I think his slant on things is skewed even though he claims high accuracy). One new thing I learned was that Custer was on a trajectory to run as the Democrat nominee for President the year he was killed, he wanted one more spectacular victory to lock the nomination. Also, he fought brilliantly for the Union in the Civil War, but he supported slavery. Useless tidbits of information, I'm full of them, maybe that's why I do memes. LOL.
