To be clear though, they are Americans already. Puerto Rico has been part of the U.S. for 120+ years, and they’re all U.S. citizens at birth and have been since 1917.

While it should at this point be a simple process of delivering long-overdue full representation to 3+ million Americans that Puerto Ricans voted for (not even the first time), what we can predict is a big nasty brawl over this in Congress rooted in xenophobia and partisanship.
I’ll give you one guess which of the two Parties is prepared to fight Puerto Rican statehood tooth and nail
