please its so annoying and sometimes the mods delete comments from like 5 years ago for no good reason

We don't always see things right away, sometimes old content is surfaced through recently popular links or scanning someone's profile. I suppose we could change the comment disabling to only happen for comments less than a month old or something like that. Although you could definitely argue that it's reasonable to apply the rule for any comment, since old comments are still out in the community able to have a detriment, and they've been there longer.

what about the time? 24 hours is really long.

For the majority of comments we delete, I think a full night's sleep is important for the user to think about it, hence 24 hours. Sleep is very powerful!

If we see a lot of instances where a shorter time would make sense then we may consider additional options though.

that's kinda the point, so you get the message that you shouldn't say that

dude i literally pointed out that 2 or 3 hours is enough to forget about the conversation

it's also to stop some trolls tho, they can still comment in 2-3 hours it's not that long

or they could decide how long, like maybe you could get disabled for 1 hour over a small arguement and if you're harassing someone you get disabled for a day

the mods just see the comments, they don't see the context for everything

People can flag rude comments and delete other person's comments due to harassing and rude things and the message will pop up if they broke the rules of being respectful to other. The update went up last this summer.
