Indeed, there’s a danger there.
But also, the news media’s focus on norms can be helpful as an objective reminder of how much of an aberration Trump’s presidency is/was.
It’s a subtle but effective form of advocacy IMO. Even though NPR isn’t an “advocacy” outlet by any means. The Democratic Party does have more moderate/conservative elements: comfortable middle-class and upper-class people who just want things to run well and the Democratic Party wouldn’t win elections without their financial backing and votes.
“Good government” is a principle the GOP has totally abandoned now and the Democrats should capitalize on it.
Norms aren’t everything, but they’re one thing that can help our country, if not make progress, at least keep it from falling apart.
