At the time the book came out, Deinonichus (pardon my spelling) was "Velociraptor Deinonichus" while the one we call Velociraptor was "Velociraptor Mongoliensis," but both were believed to be the same genus. Alan Grant commented on this in the book in a conversation with Timmy, but for simplicity's sake the term "raptor" stuck in conversation when referring to any member of that genus.
The whole "Te-Rex's vision was based on movement" thing was another unfortunate mistranslation from page to screen. In the book, ALL the dinosaurs had movement-based-vision as a side-effect of the amphibian DNA that was used to make them. That trait came from their Froggish side, not their Dino-ish side.
