Unity’s great in theory but from what I’ve seen Biden’s calls for it have been totally ridiculed and rejected by the Right.

The unfortunate Senate result seems to have validated McConnellism as Franken30 put it. So I don’t think Biden will be able to get much done legislatively.

However, Biden will be able to put the Executive Branch back together — and I believe that should ultimately involve prosecuting Trump and his cronies to the fullest extent of the law.

“Unity” would dictate letting Trump crawl away, but I think that’s likely to be much more damaging to democracy in the long-term.

If Trump gets away with what he’s done, then his aberrantly corrupt and opaque and law-breaking Administration inevitably turns into “precedent.”

The reason HRC isn’t in a jail — despite all the “Lock Her Up” chants — is because she didn’t commit a crime, as explained by Comey, a decision which wasn’t overturned by his successors or the Trump DOJ either.

Ditto Joe Biden. Ditto Hunter Biden. But were they all slimed with vague trumped-up allegations of criminality anyway? You bet.

In the U.S., nobody is or should be above the law. Not Presidents, and not former Presidents.

Despite that there is longstanding OLC guidance that prohibits prosecuting sitting presidents. The appropriate remedy to Presidential misconduct is a political one — I.e. impeachment.

But we saw this year that impeachment is pretty much a dead letter constitutional provision due to hyperpartisanship and holistic obstruction blessed by the Senate. So, sitting Presidents are effectively above the law if they decide they don’t wish to be bound by it and have a party willing to back them.

None of that protection is afforded to a private citizen, however. Mitch McConnell can no longer save Trump.

As a private citizen, Trump will have to answer for as much of his misconduct as state and federal prosecutors (and private citizens with civil claims) have the appetite to pursue — subject to Trump’s own asserted ability to pardon himself, or his willingness to resign before his term is up and hope Pence does that for him.

With regards to the Central Park Five, who were wrongly convicted of crimes they didn’t commit, and for which Donald Trump called for reinstating the death penalty, he refuses to apologize to this day. Why? Because he’s a racist piece of garbage and those who support his views are either complicit or racist pieces of garbage themselves.

So here’s the part where you play John Cleese to my Michael Palin and say “No, he didn’t and no, he isn’t” even though facts state otherwise. An argument is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of anything the other person says.
