I don't like any of the tri-colors... they're just boring and there are so many of them. Vertical stripes are a bit less horrible than horizontal ones but still absolutely lazy. But Germany might be the worst one of them because it has a black stripe right next to a red stripe which is just stupid... It lacks contrast. It breaks the most basic heraldic rule that color (i.e. red, green, blue, black, purple) should not be next to color and metal (i.e. white/silver, yellow/gold) should not be next to metal, which is the simplest rule to make flags, sigils, coats of arms, etc. clear and easy on the eyes. Most flags follow it but for some reason Germany needs to be "special" aka stupid.
Other things I don't like is when flags are really difficult to keep apart, like who has had trouble figuring out whether a flag is Italy or Ireland? Especially when the flag has been outside in the wind and sun a lot and the colors start to fade. Also, I wish countries would stop using the combination of red, blue, and white... It's been done - just like the three stripes - move on.
Anyway, anything is better than putting a coat of arms or sigil on a background or writing on a flag... but at least that's fairly rare in country flags.
