Voting is used in the comment sections to bring the best comments up and push the worst comments down. This isn't really applicable with direct messaging since it's only between two people, so I don't really see a point to it unless there were points attached to doing it so you can point farm.

Point farm? Last time, someone was cheating on point farm because they got on the leaderboard in 1 day then another day and it somehow everyone was surprised.

So you can get points during private conversations. I kinda missed that. It wasn’t for any self point farming or anything like that lol
