Let me tell you a story. My Grandfather smoked his whole life. I was about 10 years old when my mother said to him, 'If you ever want to see your grandchildren graduate, you have to stop immediately.'. Tears welled up in his eyes when he realized what exactly was at stake. He gave it up immediately. Three years later he died of lung cancer. It was really sad and destroyed me. My mother said to me- 'Don't ever smoke. Please don't put your family through what your Grandfather put us through." I agreed. I have never touched a cigarette ever in my life. I must say, I feel a very slight sense of regret for never having done it, because this comment gave me cancer anyway.

I'm in the odd situation of agreeing with you. I have a feeling you are probably seeking to apply that in ways I disagree with, but we'll take it at face value. Neither the constitution, our founding fathers, appointed justices, or our elected representatives are infallible or perfect.

Man, you won’t even accept an acknowledgment of common ground with grace.

The common ground and caveat was as negative towards me as you. I acknowledged that I didn’t even trust common ground because we disagree on so much. How did that speak negatively about you? That you apply the ideas in ways I disagree with? That also meant I probably apply it in ways you disagree with.

But if it came off as offensive or a slight, I apologize. No offense was intended.
