well actually it takes two years for clown fish to turn female. we know that two years couldn't have passed since the moment that Marlins wife died, because it takes a baby clown fish 6 months to become an adult clown fish and we can see that Nemo is only a child in both Finding Nemo movies. But what about the time in the egg you say? after all Marlin should be a female if the time a clown fish spends in the egg is long enough. well the time a clown fish spends in the egg is only about 6 to 8 days so we can say confidently that the time since Marlin's wife died is under a year.
