Have you noticed how there appears to be sunshades in the windscreen which are removed momentarily before the car reverses?
I was investigating this whole Charlottesville situation about 6 months back and found several anomolies in what video evidence is still available online.

Yeah I believe I've seen the Car being hit with sticks.
It will take me a while because they had removed many of the videos back then which I found links for plus the time further past but I will see how we go.
I should also find the meme and comment thread for your reading, you may have contributed to it anyways.
You know from video evidence I don't even think the car was accelerating down the hill, just rolling. I mean the car must be 4000 pounds and running down an 8 degree incline or greater. It would have had a good deal of momentum by the bottom of the hill plus without any motor sound which I haven't hear on the videos it would have taken the people by suprise and ensured victims, if that were the intent.
I found no sound on the way down but it is clearly heard in reverse up the hill. It adds to the likelihood of the driver not even being conscious when car is moving downhill and then the driver awakens upon the collision with the people. Sunshades get pulled down and driver understandably panics and reverses as fast as they can to leave the mob situation.
Anyways let me see if I can find.
