Ever wonder why the parents left them there to begin with? Maybe because no one traveling with these kids were even their parents. WAPO reports that 485 kids' parents have been contacted and have refused to come claim them. I believe (imo) that these kids were used by others to get across, and when that failed, were left behind. I can't see why parents who were separated would leave their children there, and if they did, they don't deserve them anyway. Most of these kids are staying with family and/or sponsors in the US, not in cages; that was only temporary while identities were being determined. I shutter to think what these kids would be doing right now, if they had continued with those that were trying to smuggle them across.
