Why is everyone blaming Trump for mistakes made by the governors of states? Why aren't we blaming the governors of the states instead? POTUS can only help in a domestic matter if they ask, and he was prevented by Congress from closing the borders in February, which was about the only action he could have taken without overstepping his authority.

Wait...none of his magic Executive Bills? They had worked wonders!

Besides, the first reports about CoVid popped up in December 2019, and even before the outbreak was a Public Health Emergency of International Concern in January 2020, it was clear that this virus was highly contagious since more and more reports from more and more regions of the world were coming in.

Now, most governments had underestimated CoVid-19, but only few presidents - among them that big fat orange disgrace in the White House - failed so badly with tackling it.
(He could have closed all outside borders, if necessary with an Executive Bill - and let the judges deal later with it.)

Over 230,000 dead...okay, that doesn't make him neither a Mao nor a Stalin. In fact, that makes him only what he was and is - a two-bit dictator of banana state dimensions.

The liberal judges moved by you libtards would have put an injunction on enforcing that order in 48 hours or less. No one has stopped the virus. Nor will Biden, who wanted to leave the borders open last Feb. Quit blaming Trump for a Chinese experiment that went wrong.

An executive order would have been demolished by a judge post haste. Remember his attempt to ban Muslim refugees that was removed by the Hawaii judge? Besides, people (presumably) like you were saying in FEBRUARY that the virus was no big deal. Nancy Pelosi was in San Francisco telling crowds not to fear what was essentially a cold and posed no danger. 'Go to Chinatown and don't be afraid' she said. Guess what? When she was doing this, her cronies were decrying Trump's attempts to close the border as xenophobic and racist actions.
Fast forward to now; You're trying to flip the coin on its head and say that you in fact were begging him to take action and slamming him for doing none. Guess what? Your lies are self-evident for anyone with half a brain. You can change many things, but you can't change history.

Now to your unprofessional insult and repeated bashing of Trump's response once it was in our borders.; you're dodging the point here. He has no authority over individual state responses until they ask for help. The states should have had plans in place to protect nursing homes from an influenza-style outbreak. The states should have had plans for the effective and rapid procurement and distribution of PPE to health workers. The states should have had plans for capacity overloads in hospitals.

Once he was denied the borders, the only authority POTUS had here is over the CDC. He should have been faster about promoting the dangers of the virus to states and ensured the CDC be on the front lines and checking over states' response plans. However, you can't blame him for the failure of governors to safeguard their people.

Honestly the hypocrisy here is just blinding.

He only has the authority to temporarily close borders to groups.
https://fas.org/sgp/crs/homesec/LSB10283.pdf

Given his earlier travel ban was struck down by a liberal judge I see no precedent to suggest a ban on Chinese and European visitors would have fared differently. This is expounded by the fact, which you cannot deny, that many prominent democrats were downplaying the threat of the virus at the same time Trump was attempting to get this done.

By all means, continue to insult me with terms like, "Trumptard" rather than provide facts and logic. It's really helping your case.

What I am trying to say is that the reason the borders were reopened the first time by a judge, is because it was unconstitutional to not allow people into the country if they were seeking asylum, which quite a few of them were.

If he had told America that a quickly spreading virus that was very punishing to older people was coming in from China, and then closed all fights, no judge would have found this unconstitutional, and he could have gathered resources to put a permanent ban on travel from China.

Yes, the democrats were downplaying the virus, because they were never told anything. All that was told came from Trump, who is still downplaying the virus to this very moment. At least we have the guts to look at our mistakes and admit we made them, something that Trump has yet to learn.

Your right. I should not have insult you, I was stressed and was being a troll. Sorry.

https://www.factcheck.org/2020/03/the-facts-on-trumps-travel-restrictions/

I won't deny that the ban was useless in light of the fact that none of us anticipated how quickly the virus would get here. The only goal I had was showing he at least tried to take action at a national level earlier than anyone else. That was influenced heavily by our lack of information. I'm not entirely sure it's fair to blame Trump for that. The CDC should operate independently enough of the White House to have been able to confirm early on that a dangerous virus was in China. Given how heavily China suppressed info about the virus I don't think any country had ample time to prepare, not in the least as connected a trade and travel partner as us.

No one is innocent in this pandemic. I'm not saying Trump has clean hands. He should have been more up front early on and said, "These are the steps I'm taking in light of what we know now (let's say this was in February). The ban won't mitigate the spread of viruses in states, but if we make it comprehensive and take steps to internalize our economy we can save lives and prevent economic damage. I'm standing by to aid any state that submits to me its disaster relief plan and a request for additional Federal aid in the event of a crisis. The CDC will continually update its website with the latest information we've got on the virus and its potential adverse effects on our health."

If he had said that then I feel his position at least would have been more defensible in future months. This is because we saw by the death toll that few states were prepared for an influenza-style outbreak. The blame for this lies solely with state governors and legislatures. They clearly had no clue how to properly lock down nursing homes, to expand the emergency capacity of hospitals, and to have adequate stockpiles of PPE on hand. When they realized this they went screeching to Washington for help, but even the Feds couldn't mobilize a response quickly enough to satiate the needs of the crises centers (New York, Seattle, etc) in time...then to deflect blame from their own inability to prepare for a crisis they point fingers at Trump and say, "He didn't get the supplies we needed to us in time!!!" Well, that shouldn't have been nearly as big of an issue as it was. [cont.]

[cont.] That the states and the Feds acted sluggishly in response to the outbreak is undeniable...look at our death toll for crying out loud...but in light of all the factors in play, especially China's attempts to cover it up that crippled the world's potential response time, I feel it's unfair to blame anyone alone...we've all screwed up at this point. We've also all made pretty impressive progress. States are now getting their logistics together...some of them such as my own (Montana) have kept the pace of the virus to a crawl from day one. (but we also have fewer people than cows so that's got something to do with it I'm sure, haha.) The Federal government launched massive relief programs to get huge quantities of PPE into the hands of states. They deployed a hospital ship to New York at a point where beds were in critically short supply. We've got multiple drugs and therapies very close to launch readiness. State and federal testing efficiency went from criminally low to one of the best on the planet.
The problem is the cat is simply out of the bag. A myriad of factors prevented us from isolating the spread and sealing it out of the country...now we can only hope we don't lose more lives. The 200,000+ death count was an avoidable tragedy and no single entity can be really be blamed for it.

Right. Like the judicial libtard that refuses to dismiss the Flynn case? Liberal judges have NO problem using unconstitutional orders against Trump. The majority of those rulings were overturned on appeal.

The comment about injecting bleach was clearly sarcasm. If you can't pick up on it then I honestly don't know what to say other than you should watch some British TV to help develop that dry sense of humor.

Downplaying COVID? Weird...last time I check the earliest action the U.S tried to take against COVID was when Trump tried to close the borders in February. Interestingly enough, Pelosi was in San Francisco saying that crows shouldn't be afraid of what was basically a cold and to go mingle and eat out in Chinatown. Her compatriots were simultaneously decrying Trump's attempts to close the border as xenophobic and racist actions.

https://apps.who.int/iris/bitstream/handle/10665/331693/WHO-2019-nCov-IPC_Masks-2020.3-eng.pdf?sequence=1&isAllowed=y

I don't understand how his refusal to wear a mask as a healthy person is downplaying the danger of COVID or the WHO when that organization itself released this and hasn't yet revised the guidelines I linked above. Please note that the WHO also said China handled the pandemic in an exemplary fashion when we have clear evidence their death rate was far higher than ours. Of course the president of the United States, the main rival of China, is going to attempt to contradict this. In Trump's style he did it via personal attacks. Unprofessional? Maybe. He's not wrong though.

Calling COVID a hoax is certainly wrong. However Trump is not the most eloquent of speakers and half of the bile spewed about him wouldn't survive the most cursory fact check. Hate is a two-way street.

Got any substantive criticism of him? If you want to use the death toll as a statistic please observe my response to catdad explaining how that blame is legally the fault of the governors...we all know you guys would hate to see Trump overreach his Constitutional authority, so it's rather hypocritical to accuse him of deaths that are on the hands of individual governors.

Fighting your countless false claims:
The WHO isn't a puppet for china, the reason they pay so little compared to America is most funds are voluntary, at least Americans can spare a penny.
You clearly haven't listened to trump's dumb stuff, haven't you? He has countlessly downplayed the severity of covid and he called it a hoax. He said it would be gone by april, then june, now he is referring to it as a thing of the past. He rarely ever wears a mask.

Without lockdowns, over 75,000,000 people could be infected right now and 3,000,000 dead, in America alone.

Are you stupid??? They don't force patients in nursing homes. They keep them in hospitals. And they are getting VERY full right now.

Injecting bleach is a bad idea, it can kill you!

Trump's response to covid is worse than that of a 5-year old.
