❥ Cordillera Branca ( White Cordillera ) is a subcordillera of the Andes, in Peru. It is 180 km long. Its highest point is Huascarán. Together with the Cordillera Negra (west of the Cordillera Branca) it forms the callejón de Huaylas through which the Santa River flows in the department of Ancash.
❥ The White Cordillera is the result of the lifting of the South American plate by the action of the Nazca plate that is introduced under it. Over the course of millions of years the Cordillera Blanca was formed in northern Peru.
❥ Almost the entire mountain range is protected by the Huascarán National Park, a paradise of snowy peaks. There are peaks such as Huandoy and Huascarán (the highest mountain in Peru), and 663 glaciers, 269 lagoons, among which lagoons like Llanganuco and 42 rivers stand out, in addition to 33 archaeological sites.
