The death toll rises every year and is also predicted into the future on the cdc site. We are basically flat at this point, which means that those who were predicted to die...didn't. The shut downs and masking etc, actually had an added benefit.
Yes, it keeps up with the population increase. Which is about 2% or so each year.
It had nothing to do with the shut downs and the masks. The virus has a 99.95% survival rate.
