but it does get us thinking about why we value cars so much, and to question our reflexive tendency to assign blame to pedestrians, scooterists, and bicyclists if they are hit by automobiles. I saw it all the time when electric scooters started coming out in cities: "these things are unsafe!!!"

yes. But i live in a sub-urb, and ppl use bicycles a lot and don't get hit and its the cars that usually do. But i don't think that just because you drive a motor vehicle you have to be a second-class citizen. Ppl can also have electric cars.

I think motorists need to "check their privilege" (basically) when they're in areas of significant or likely foot/bike traffic. But we often hear just the opposite: pedestrians and bicyclists are "getting in the way" and if something bad happens, it's their fault

They ought to be prosecuted if so: except Republican legislatures around the country are trying to change the laws to tacitly permit vehicular homicide in such circumstances. There's always room for local "prosecutorial discretion" as well to drop the charges.

True, thats terrifiying. But the cars aren't always responsible for hitting people. Example cuz this happens a lot where i live; There are a lot of kids on the road, just playing, and people can't always see them. So they get hit. The little kids should have been playing in the park instead of the middle of the road, where they are in danger, and roads were first built for commute, and not for protesting. Getting a little off topic here, but most of the "protests" were just people running down the road and setting buildings on fire.
