No, you've said you support *civil unions* not gay marriage. In other words you support a view that was pretty mainstream 10 years ago but which overlooks all the progress that's been made since then. Imposing this view today would involve depriving millions of gay people of full equal recognition of their marriages under the law.

My position on homosexual marriage has never changed. I have always believed the government should be taken out of the matter, and it should instead be made a religious decision. So homosexual civil unions should be legal, but churches should not be forced to marry a homosexual couple. This does not deprive homosexuals of equal rights. Plus, Obama was opposed to homosexual marriage, so do you think Obama had a phobia of homosexuality? You have become so obsessed with appearing "LGBTQ-friendly", you have become hostile towards practicing Christians, Jews and Muslims. Why can't you form a happy medium, and support both homosexuals and the religious like I do, instead of favouring one side?

Under your logic, a minister could equally refuse to wed an interracial couple; or a marriage of a citizen and a non-citizen; or a pair of convicted criminals; or any other match out of "principle."
