Two-party system/primary & general elections: Candidates join one of two parties and announce their bid for President. Each Party holds a primary election to determine their candidate. Then the two winners of their respective primaries face each other head-to-head.

What if we could have independent candidates (no party candidates) and if they get enough votes while the other parties are doing there primaries then the independent candidate(s) can participate in the final election with the democrat and the republican.

ah, so a bit of a mix between two of the options I suggested.

Basically: Two default parties ("Republican" and "Democrat," or whatever we want to call them), but the option for third parties to organize and if they reach a critical mass, they can officially incorporate and propose a nominee.

This is a nice balance between structure and flexibility.

I like it a lot!!

Due to the amount of participants there might be a tie in the primary. What would happen if there was a tie?

it's quite possible there'd be a tie in the primaries if the elections don't have that many participants.

I'd say that parties can choose their own internal rules for resolving ties.

i'd suggest (but not insist) in that event the two top candidates can then negotiate amongst themselves to see who's going to be president & who's going to be VP.

Or, they can hold another vote.

I’ll post some basic ideas on how voting for President could work in this steam. Details to be ironed out later. Feel free to add your own!

Two-party system/“free-for-all”: Candidates declare themselves as Republican or Democrat, then announce run for President. No qualifications to run (other than abide by stream terms) or limit on number of candidates.

I believe this is how voting works in IMGFLIP_PRESIDENTS, so similar to that.

We know how that turned out
Anyone could run, and everyone did. Not everyone was on the ballots. Small users were buried under tons of propaganda.

Admittedly, I was a part of that “propaganda” problem ;)

I agree, it was chaotic. I want something a little different/more structured for this stream.

Multi-party system/primary & general elections: There are no pre-determined parties. Instead, memers organize their own parties and once they reach a certain number of signatories (I’m thinking 10-20 but we can set a number later), they can petition to become an official party with powers to hold primary elections and submit a single candidate to stand for the general election.
