Ultimately you're right. Although, I believe the CCP is in violation of the Sino–British Joint Declaration they signed with the UK when HK was turned over to them, which was supposed to guarantee the continuation of HK's separate form of govt until 2047.
The Brits are in no position to do anything about it (as the CCP knew all along) and the US certainly isn't going to do what it would take (which would likely mean a hot war) in order to stop the human rights abuses and total takeover going on now in HK.
Whether it's China or not, the US needs to stand with any people who are fighting for their freedom. (unlike that pussy coward, LaBron James, who only cares about money!) That includes those in HK and also those in the mainland. Have you heard of the New Federal State of China?
The other key point I was trying to make with the meme (I know, I'm usually *not* very good at catchy meme making!) is the hypocrisy of the NY Times, which undoubtedly supports Antifa and BLM's violent rioting in the US, but said about HK that "after months of chaos in the city, something had to be done".
Can you imagine how refreshing (and effective) it would be if the left-controlled media took that attitude regarding the violence being waged in US cities?
