This is when someone creates an image while logged out but submits it to a public subreddit, and then the image reaches a certain level of popularity on Reddit. It's the only time when we automatically feature images, since the creator has already established that they want the image to be shared widely and publicly, and Reddit has already done some quality checks for us such as anti-spam.
