Hell yeah, the C96 is a really cool pistol. It stuck around even as it was supplanted by more advanced tech, due to its high capacity(10 rounds was a lot back then), power, and range(it had a detachable hollow wooden shoulder stock that doubled as a carrying case, when in use this transformed it into more of a carbine than a pistol).
In WWI the Germans considered it outdated and were phasing it out for the Luger P08. By WWII, the P08 was outdated and the Germans were phasing it out for the Walther P38, nevertheless the C96 and its many copies was still seeing use the world over. Magazine-fed variants were also developed(most notably the full-auto M712 machine pistol) to mitigate the weakness of stripper-clip reloading.
