Save the children

Children are in almost zero danger from Covid. They are, however, at risk of being psychologically traumatized by extended, widespread hypochondria.

I realize that most healthy children have a good chance of surviving it; however, that doesn't take into account the 8.4% that are asthmatic or other medical conditions that dramatically decrease survivability.

Additionally, between 8-10% of American homes are multigenerational meaning the children may survive but will transmit it to parents or grandparents that will not. I can't imagine the trauma of being responsible for the death of a loved one, but I suspect it outweighs that of having to wash your hands and wear a face mask outside.

Elderly people can be vulnerable to all kinds of infections. This is nothing new. Should we just shut down society over all of that too?

That is a good point. I wouldn't advocate shutting anything down at this point, nor do I believe it necessary. The flu is often fatal, though not as much as COVID. I do think there are personal hygiene practices we can take with us.

It does bring up another important piece though. The US is the wealthiest, most powerful nation in the history of humanity, AND the only major nation without universal healthcare. We are ranked 46th on life expectancy which based on our nation's greatness, I find unacceptable.
