One of my favs: 2 Kings 2:23–24. The prophet Elisha rolled into Bethel where 2 kids called him baldhead. He cursed them in the name of the Lord and then 2 freaking bears showed up and ATE 42 CHILDREN.

OH! And the Ordeal of Bitter Water where if you think your wife got pregnant from another man, God will make her abort the baby. Numbers 5:11–31

Jephthah asks for victory over his enemies in exchange for sacrificing the first thing he sees when he gets home.

God grants Jephthah victory, and shows Jephthah his daughter when he gets home.

Jephthah sacrifices his daughter to God.

We are supposed to have a holiday for this.

Didn't Jefferson call Jesus's words in the Bible "diamonds in a dunghill?"

Sorry, I forgot today was Yom Kippur. As a non-practicing Catholic, G'mar chatima tova and I wish you an easy fast.

There I go making assumptions again. You’re making reference to the Old Testament and not the Torah.

I stand corrected.

Judges 11:32-40, the story of Jephthah's daughter, and the holiday we should be taking every year.

Blood sacrifice is evil, so God asked Abraham to do it.

Blood sacrifice is evil, so God forced Jephthah to do it.

Blood sacrifice is evil, so God forced Jesus to do it.

Blood sacrifice is evil.

Since you have referenced the Bible, please read your reference and quote for me the part where God forces Jephthah to keep his ill conceived vow. Anyone, believer or not, will not be able to quote it because it does not exist. If you want to infer anything about this passage infer that Jephthah made a vow that God neither asked for or required but was made out of human foolishness.

Per the bible, it is not unusual for God to ask for blood sacrifice. It is not even unusual for God to ask for human blood sacrifice.

Abraham was asked to sacrifice his son.

God does sacrifice Jesus.

Are you saying that God didn't deliver the battle unto Jephthah and the Bible is just wrong about the contract? God could have let Jephthah see his dinner, or a pie in the window when he first got home, God chose the daughter.

God tested Abraham but provided a sacrifice. Jesus sacrificed himself, if you believe Jesus was an all powerful miracle worker you should believe he could avoid sacrifice, if not your arguments about the Bible are null as you don't believe them your self.

I am saying that there was never a contract between God and Jephthah. Jephthah's vow was no more a contract than the drunken promise of someone puking their guts out after drinking too much. When a person says "Please God just let me get through this night and I will never drink again", God doesn't in that moment then decide to save their life and hold them to the promise of never drinking again. Since you are such a Bible scholar you will know that Jephthah was not a man of God but rather a hired thug that was hired to win a war that God had already decided the outcome of. Please do not hold the creator of the universe accountable for the vows of a prostitute's son who should never have been in the position he was put in by falible humans.

If you would have read, line one contradicts you.

32 Then Jephthah went over to fight the Ammonites, and the LORD gave them into his hands.

Not what the Bible says.

Judges clearly states the contract and need of holy days for the sacrfice.

You are just wrong.
