The IMGFLIP_PRESIDENTS stream mods don’t want to DQ homophobic memers from running. Rather than fight, should we boycott?

They don't have direct power over anything and 96% of all people who use Imgflip don't know or care about Imgflip Presidents.

Presidential elections are forums to discuss issues, basically. The winner doesn’t have real power but it does signify something.

It’s a largely symbolic fight, but a fight nonetheless.

If TobyThePug wins, he’ll have no real power, but he’s going to swagger around like it’s a validation of the insane bigoted nonsense he believes in anyway. And he’ll leverage his “authority” (whatever it may be) to try to push changes to ImgFlip agreeable to him and his free speech absolutism.

He's not president yet, I could list plenty of incumbents from last few elections who would have swaggared around trying to push changes to meet their own agenda (if that's what imgflip presidents actually could) but they weren't DQ because some people had different views. I'm not endorsing Pug by any stretch, but elections are elections anyone can campaign.

The threat of swaggering or pushing changes to ImgFlip isn’t the reason we’re upset, nor even his wild and crazy views on free speech/hate speech, necessarily.

No, it’s because he walks around promoting the bigoted trash that LGBTQ people aren’t really valid and must be suffering from some mental illness.

That invalidates a healthy chunk of ImgFlip and makes him unable to serve even in a symbolic role. It’s a matter of basic human rights and recognition, not mere disagreement.

Even at the end of tough campaigns, memers can typically come together and support the winner.

But if it’s TobyThePug: doubtful. He doesn’t accept them, so why would they accept him.

His inability to serve effectively in this respect were he to win is the main reason he should just be DQ’d from the get-go. But there are plenty of other reasons why it’s a good idea for the integrity of the stream, see discussions here and elsewhere.

It's a role play folks, but, if you really want imgflip to run more like a democracy you shouldn't say who can and cannot run. Elections determine who the majority want. Seeing as pretty much only kids participate in the elections and they vote for their friends and seeing as Toby isn't really liked by many I don't see him standing a chance but boycotting the whole thing because you disagree with a candidate is silly. If it were real life how far would our country get if people just boycotted November 3rd? Lol

The risk of him winning means that pro-LGBTQ people are gonna have to unite around one candidate to stop him. And he still might win from attracting politics trolls or whatever.

Totally messes up the race and is not fair to other great and kind memers who might lose votes because of what I described above.
