Do you honestly believe the CDC China office would have a special ability to force the CCP into transparency? My $0.02 is that a CDC China office would make no difference.
I think we need to avoid the trap of looking back and thinking we would have known what to do. Trump may have been warned about a disease from China back in Dec, but did he, or those advising him, have any way to know what this virus was like? We still don't know so much about it.
I don't want to overstate the effectiveness of the Wuhan travel ban, but at the same time, we shouldn't discount the fact that it saved lives (as did the Europe travel ban.) My point when I bring it up, relative to Fauci's statement from a few days earlier, is that Trump has been proactive, even in spite of what an expert told him. If people want to criticize Trump, that's certainly fair, but criticize him for legitimate reasons.
What you mention about the patent infringement policy is something new to me. Maybe you could explain how a travel ban would help with what I speculate to be a practice that is done nearly entirely electronically? (the stealing of information by the CCP)
The thing about Trump that I try to keep in mind is that he's not a very effective speaker, nor communicator. (imo, at least) I ignore anything he says at a political rally. If Fauci said we don't need masks, can we blame Trump for repeating it?
When answering questions from the press, his casual manner of speaking shouldn't be misunderstood. He knows they're trying to bait him into an answer they'll use against him, e.g. the seamless transition after the election. If he just says sure, the press will twist that into him admitting he's going to lose. Losing begets losing, right? So he'll have none of it.
You may know that Biden wouldn't have blundered the response, but I doubt Biden knows it. Have you any experience with seniors suffering from dementia or other similar afflictions? I do, and imo he's way worse than the media is telling us. Did you watch his most recent town hall? It was hard for me to watch. I recall how he tore Paul Ryan apart in the 2012 VP debate. I may not have agreed with that Biden, but I would have no problem with him being president. Not any more.
Our covid deaths are likely way overstated. They have to be, since our testing has a 20% false positive rate, right? And, I'm not sure why you think the US leads in deaths per capita. See attached chart from Nakedly Progressive Radio.
