militarized police are hurting the United States.

We are not an occupied nation. Militaries are for war and killing, not serving and protecting.

De-militarize the police, use the leftover funds for social services.

The police can stay fully funded, and not be militarized.

OK, "militarized" is the word of the day. Got it.

But how is your comment even relevant? You'll probably have to explain your fever dreams more completely, so reasonable, non-leftist people will know exactly what you mean.

For example, do you believe a police armored personnel carrier ran over George Floyd, killing him? Do you believe the recent destruction of American cities are the result of police tanks running over everything? Do you believe that police officers carrying service pistols makes them "militarized"?

I believe you'll find the vast majority of people believe the militarization of police has NOTHING to do with the pivotal events of 2020, myself included.

FWIW, I'm strongly opposed to the militarization of police. Certain departments becoming equipped with MRAPs and such is clearly not sound policy, until violent riots sweep over their cities, that is. But I firmly reject that such equipment has played any significant role in recent events.

militarized is when you use military equipment.

Militarized is using military style training.

I agree we should defund police. I also believe we need to fund the local sherrif that gets elected and appoints deputies. What are they going to do when the sherrif and all deputies are black and they still get shot for pulling a gun?
