I hate to rain on the fun parade - but I'm a bit of an expert on the topic, having worked 20 years in the industry.

SmartPost is a FedEx Express Ground based service - where FedEx takes the package most of the delivery -but partners with the USPS to deliver the package the rest of the way.

The UPS equivalent of this is Sure Post.

For all of the USPS fans - you can thank FedEx & UPS for partnering with the USPS to help keep them in business.

Yep you are an expert ..... you have just outlined the exact problem .... it was handed off to the USPS and that my friend is where fedex ground screws up and the whole delivery goes into oblivion. LOL I don't care is the USPS goes under .... it needs to

Right - but it's by design. The USPS takes last miles ownership & gets a cut, which allow normal package shipping lanes to open up & keep better zone to delivery time than UPS Ground. Making more areas next day Ground or 2 day Ground available to a shipper.

Consider the business models that end up using Smart Post - the vendor could likely have also gotten One Rate Pricing & used FedEx Express packaging & received a slightly higher price & and guaranteed time commitment delivery.

Normally in an online market shopping cart - there are various options that allow you to pick the shipment method of your choice. Rarely in an eCommerce flooded market do you see online retailers force feeding your choice of shipment option.

These usually look something like this:

(o) Free Shipping 7-14 days
( ) FedEx Ground 14.12
( ) UPS Ground 14.55
( ) 2-Day Air FedEx

Don't blame a carrier for your choice to save a buck - Blame instead your retailers usage of a lower quality service - or your choice of shipping method.

You ger what you pay for.

I am not blaming anyone, I am saying this is what happens when you see a friends package transferred to Smartpost ... you are know they are screwed! It's meme not a business plan.

I mean I understand - harder to time the porch robbery when there isn't a time guarantee? Now I'm lost.
