How to undo centuries of mistreatment? I don’t know, it’s never been done before. But it will take more than we’ve done thus far

Reparations? Chief, you're outta your f***ing mind.

Tell me, why should I have to pay to amend a crime I didn't commit? I'm a completely separate entity from my ancestors. So please, explain to me why the f*** I should be held accountable.

Jim Crow reparations, I understand. But slavery reparations? Absurd.

Now, as it happens, I actually don't have any ancestors who owned slaves or fought for the Confederacy. I have one ancestor who was involved in the American Civil War, and he fought for the Union. He was a POW for three months in a Confederate Prison camp, where he nearly died. So don't go getting the impression I'm soft on the South, because I sure as hell ain't, and the fact that they brutally subjugated blacks on such a vast scale certainly doesn't help their case.

Let me be clear: I'm not trying to pretend that racism is magically going away all of a sudden. I know damn well it's not. But the concept that I must carry the burden of my ancestor's actions is simply ludicrous. I'm not paying jacks*** for something that I didn't do.

On Labor Day week, let’s reflect on all the unpaid back wages that are still owed the descendants of slaves. | UNPAID BACK WAGES | image tagged in wage and hour division whd, labor, labor day, slavery, slaves, justice | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
You’re not personally responsible, but someone is. It would be logistically difficult or impossible to track down those who are. They may be bankrupt. These unpaid wages are still owed, however.

As such a general payment out of taxpayer funds is the most feasible solution.

We’ve been told reparations bills in the billions or tens of billions or hundreds of billions were unaffordable, but the trillions of dollars in coronavirus relief pulled out of a hat over the past several months proves that was a lie.

Other groups we’ve compensated on a large scale before: injured veterans, mesothelioma patients, Holocaust victims, Japanese internment camp victims.

It can be done.
