There are thousands of stories already in which curses play an actual role.
Of course, to speak in Hermione's words: "The best way to make sure everybody would want to read it is by banning it".
But I guess a story about an innocent man who only wanted to do good, being humiliated and crucified is a lot better.
Oh well...
