Was thinking about this. Scorpios rule♏

Since in Dutch the names were translated to Dutch from Latin, it's easy for me to translate the names of the signs to English. Aries = Male sheep, Taurus = bull, Gemini = twins, Cancer = Crab, Leo = Lion, Virgo = Virgin (only applies to female virgins), Libra = Weighting scales, Scorpio = scorpion, Sagittarius = Archer, Capricorn = Mountain goat, Aquarius = Water man, Pisces = Fishes. I've no idea why they were never translated in English.

My sign based on my date of birth is Gemini by the way. What the best is.... Actually I do not really place much stock into astrology as I'm more into astronomy where the signs are merely used to make clear which stars are being discussed at the time.

huh, wow. I use the signs to figure out where i am looking whenever i am stargazing. And to find the galaxies and black holes in the sagitarius constellation.

Yeah, that is basically how astronomers use the signs. Basically for the same reason why areas on Earth have names. When I say "Mont Blanc" everybody knows I meant the big mountain on the French/Italian border. And that is easier to say also. And "Rocky Mountains" also makes it easier to talk then when I have to say those mountains somewhere in the US. Astronomer's use star signs for the same reason. When I say I found an exoplanet in the direction of Virgo, all astronomers will know where to look.

you deserve a million upvotes! But it also is helpful to know what star it is near, like in the orion constellation, there are some cool stuff going on there, but its hard to see it if you just say "orion constellation" instead of specific stars like betelguise, or Rigel

True, but then again, when we speak about names on Earth alone you got the same issue. When I say that somebody is in the U.S. you got a pretty giant area to search if you want to find this person. When I say that person is in Washington D.C. then suddenly the area is a lot smaller.
Star constellations and their individual stars are a bit in the same trade ;)

CANCER means crab in Latin, and the disease was named after that animal and not the other way around. The first tumor seen had the shape of a crab. Hence the name of the disease.

The logo I showed is the logo of the Dutch organization specialized on combating the disease. Given how the disease got its name the logo makes perfect sense, don't you think?

Hippocrates called it the greek word for crab-like because of the shape. When translated to latin it became cancer, the latin word for crab.
