And even then it’s a really tough sell. So much for the moral majority.

His Morally isn't in question. The stories calling it into question are all fake news.

His *lack of morality* isn’t in question.

There, fixed it. This meme has very little to do with the Atlantic article, and blanket statements make you look silly. Especially when trying to defend the morality of a man with decades of documented immoral and amoral behaviors that are intrinsic to his public persona.

There was no concern with his morality before he ran for office. Then, out of the woodwork stories like the one in the Atlantic are drummed up in an effort to interfere with the election. Clearly, he isn't perfect... no one is making that claim. He doesn't have some kind of moral concern that would interfere with his ability to be President. To the contrary, he set aside cushy wealthy life out of love of country. He could be relaxing on a beach somewhere instead of dealing with a bounty of fake news. It takes pretty amazing moral fortitude to put your own peace and comfort to the side, take no pay and work this hard to try to rebuild and extend the greatness of this nation.

No one cared about his morality because he was a B-level celebrity whose attitudes and actions didn’t affect anyone but the people he did business with (and they stayed mostly quiet out of fear they’d go under from legal fees and/or blacklisting). For the rest, his lack of morality was amusing, a side show to distract from real life.

But now he’s President, and having a strong moral compass is actually really important because he is accountable for his decisions to people he can’t buy or intimidate, and the decisions he makes aren’t about his own bottom line - they are life and death for many, health or hardship for countless more.

The sacrificial leader bit doesn’t fly because he’s not a complete idiot. He knows that being President brings wealth directly after, and if you have wealth going into the job it gets multiplied once you leave it. If he was concerned with actually helping the country, he would have learned a lot in the past couple years and changed his tactics to get things passed through Congress and bring the country together. Instead, he’s doubling down on the things that have made him a villain to more than half the country. That shows either ineptitude or an ego so large there’s no room for anything better than purely self-driven situational ethics.

He’s not a martyr, and he has no moral code beyond doing what is best for himself.

It's the media that has doubled down on making him the villain of the country through endless fake news about everything from Nazi's to insulting troops. When he does something like get in a twitter battle with someone on the others side of an issue, he opens himself up to fair criticism... but this is hardly moral bankruptcy. If you've ever been on twitter, most of the tone is similar to what we see in these messages. Pretty negative stuff. When he meets with the Queen, clearly he doesn't act like a twitter troll. He acts very presidential and respectable. When he is on twitter, he dukes it out with the best/worst of them. He's matching his audience and environment. Not having morals would be not knowing the difference.

Presidents aren’t supposed to get into twitter battles. They have much more important things to spend their time doing, like managing a national pandemic response, working to ease racial tensions, creating and implementing strong foreign and domestic policies, reaching across the aisle for common ground legislation, uniting a politically fractured country, presenting a strong yet dignified image of the world’s economic leader, making decisions that cost the lives of American soldiers and soothing the pain of the ones they leave behind, keeping the nation's secrets...all the while getting enough sleep, food, drink, exercise, and downtime to stay on top of it all. Also he has to raise money for his re-election campaign and try to increase his voter base.

Twitter wars aren’t just a waste of time, they’re actively counterproductive to several of the goals above, and engaging in them shows a lack of priority management that is immoral. It also shows that he is uninterested in adjusting himself to the demands of his job, and would rather make it more difficult to accomplish his goals than acquire some grace and humility.

This is all tied to morality, and is only a fraction of the case against the existence of his moral compass.
