Video games in general? No, of course not, there are many different types.
Specifically violent video games? Also no.... but.
- if played in moderation violent video games can be a legitimate vent for high stress.
- when talking about kids, it becomes a bit more difficult, and well, they shouldn't be playing games that are for adults or much older teens. So, if it can be linked (it hasn't been convincingly), that is not down to the kid alone.
- I honestly think teens (if healthy) can easily compartmentalise reality, fiction, violence, and fictional violence, though it doesn't hurt to have a conversation with your teens about the content in all their media (Spoiler: They're likely going to consume it even if you say they can't. Spoiler 2: they likely do consume it, even if you think they don't.) For the teens as well, it's worth having conversations about often misunderstood content if you think your parents/guardians can be reasonable about it.
- I don't think playing a game can make someone violent, but I do think a person with violent tendencies that go unchecked can be influenced by violence they consume from any medium or it can build on said violence. Much like drinking (usually) does not make someone violent but it can heighten the violence in someone, holding a gun does not make you shoot someone, but if you want to shoot someone, holding a gun makes it easier and driving a car does not make you kill someone, etc.
