Sounds like your happy with how the Oregon voting system is working for you and i was not aware they had no booths in a state with 4 plus million people.
All systems can work if the voter rolls are valid. We in the U.S dont have world class voter roles or means of checking i.d and the methods for counting the votes from a polling booth are wide open to fraud as is a Mail in system.
Also most systems in place elsewhere in the world count the votes of a polling place at the site. They do so with electoral officials and day hired/paid workers in a sealed off space without anyone allowed to come or go until counting complete. Usually they also have external scrutineers/watchers who often represent political parties running in the race. Once votes are counted they relay the basic totals to a central tally room and then depending on how they choose the winner of a race will continue counting etc.
Elsewhere if any votes are lost they also have to redo the whole election in that area and so the requirement to maintain integrity is even greater.
The U.S system tends not to have such scrutiny placed upon,
The integrity of the roll, the security of the ballot once placed/ marked or the accuracy of the count verified through multiple checks or counts.
Electronic voting is also another means by which fraud is easily accomplished and you I think will recall some of the issues we/the country has had over the last decades.
So yes I hear you now about how your method has been in place and you have all been happy enough with it. Hopefully your rolls are accurate but I still don't see how anyone can claim that mail in is going to achieve a total which is not able to be easily manipulated.
Personally i am well informed about how voting is achieved throughout the world and applying that knowledge, I don't think you could satisfy me that the Oregon roles or U.S voter roles from anywhere are sound representations of those people who should be voting and that is before you get into whether you should also produce I.D to vote. But voter roles are my main issue with the system as it stands.
