Yeah, it's typical how the big companies decide what is a virus and what not without performing an actual scan. Of course, the (non-virus) programs from unknown developers threaten their business, but in no way there's a conflict of interest... How dare I even imply it?
Of course, a bit of a background check on software before installing it is always a wise thing to do. When there's no trace of the developer at all, one should be careful... A true software developer always makes themselves known... Of course "unknown developer" doesn't mean the name of the developer is not noted in the program... It means the big companies don't know how they are, and yeah, then they easily start yelling "virus"... (Some "anti" malware programs even going so far of deleting without asking... Obi-Wan? You know what to say to that one).
