The best part is, after the first few nights, the after glow of having killed 2 people have faded, the grim realization that bail denied and the sinking feeling that he will not be getting out for a very long time, long after his name has faded into the abyss of the daily news cycle, hero status fades to just another distant memory of those misguided only to be replaced and one upped by another wannabe, he will be long forgotten, a true waste of a once hopeful life. Nobody will care in a few months time other than a passing anecdote or a remember that guy story, a dodeing mother on her teary eyed daily visits will be a sad replacement for the love of a woman he will never have as romance will be as foreign to him as a star is to the moon, that first birthday will be a regretful benchmark that will fade into many more eventless celebrations, hollidays will be marked with an extra hour of yard time or an extra helping of desert, all to be celebrated with your best friend who has the moral compass of a rapist and child abuser and nobody will care for your life goals or dreams and limited accomplishments, for those stone grey walls, cold steel bars and viewless mesh windows offer nothing but a comforting reminder to the outside world that you are where you belong, alone, a life on pause, the reward for ending others.
