I'd rather he sounded angry, defiant, and resolute. You don't defeat authoritarianism from a stance of compliance, meekness, or powerlessness, and that's what the continual reactions of shock, sadness, and fear on the center-left strike me as.

At least whatever Dems are doing, it seems to be working this time judging by the polls.

Yeah, well yes and no. The ‘16 results were within the margin of error. FiveThirtyEight predicted Trump had a 33% likelihood of winning. An event that happens 33% of the time is not exactly unexpected.
And for the polls to be eight whole points wrong or whatever it would have to be this time for Biden to lose would be shocking.
