I think it’s pretty uncontroversial that content made by users with more followers inevitably gets in front of more eyeballs

The screenshot provides pretty good evidence of that

The only thing certain folks here are objecting to is whether they are willing to call this “privilege,” or whether it matters at all

Whatever you want to call it, it’s a good point and we should all try to make new users feel welcome.

Example: If I see an interesting meme by a new user I go out of my way to compliment them and introduce them to new streams they might enjoy.

And why do they have more followers? Because they earned that edge by impressing us.

Longer histories on ImgFlip, more memes, more comments, more followers, leaderboard status, all-time Top User status.

It all adds up.

But everyone started on this site with their very first meme and we should try to remember that when interacting with new users.
