1: Body’s/ anatomy
When you’re drawing, little stick arms and legs are NOT the way to go. You are able to make the body’s a bit more t h i c k. Use references, simply look up “drawing body base”, or look up a character to reference from. Try to make the head starting with a circle, then a v-shape for the chin, and shape it out from there. Make marks in the middle of the face to make everything a bit more straight, like guidelines. Don’t be afraid to make the neck a bit wide, since human’s don’t have small necks. I’m not very good at anatomy, so your gonna have to look that up. Also for drawing eyes, make sure to make it look more like an eye. I start out with a circle, then shape the circle into the size I want the eye to be. Add another circle in the middle of the eye shape you just made, then a even smaller circle for the black part of the eye. Again, I’d explain more but it’s a lot to type and my hands are starting to hurt
2: Traditional art tips
Let’s see.... Make sure your pencils are always sharp, and sketch the drawing first. If you push the pencil down to much, it’ll be hard to erase. Try to sketch out the drawing lightly, then trace over it with more pressure. Also, once your done, you should trace everything again with a fine point marker, this will make it look a lot nicer. Be sure to use colored pencils for coloring. I use marker for a base, then colored pencils for shading so I don’t waste the pencils. DO NOT use crayons. You can’t shade with crayons, and I personally think it looks bad when you use crayons. Actually, just don’t use the crayola brand at all. I suggest Prismacolor or Prang, both are good for colored pencils, and shade really nicely.
3: Digital art tips
Digital is one of my favorites, and I’ve learned a lot about it. Make sure to ALWAYS do line art. Simply using a color and not sketching the drawing looks rushed, and not as nice as it could really be. You also want to utilize the layers option. For hair, make a new layer. For the face, make a new layer. Sketch is it’s own layer, the line art is it’s own layer. For coloring, use the bucket tool, it saves a lot of time. For shading, use the airbrush tool. If there’s an option for a smudge or blend effect, use that to shade. You can also import pictures onto the canvas for an easy reference. The eyedropper is a nice tool as well, it’s easier to get the exact color you want. I would suggest ProCreate, but I use ibisPaint.
