Pectin is required for jelly. No pectin in ketchup.

Sorry, but ketchup DOES use pectin as a thickening agent. Jelly and ketchup are two different preserving processes. Jelly uses mostly the juice of the fruit and pectin as a thickener, while ketchup is more of a boiled pulp from the flesh of the fruit.

I've never seen a ketchup recipe that used pectin, but OK - there are all sorts of ketchup recipes out there that I haven't seen.

Hahahahaha, the article doesn't say that any pectin is added, it says there's a small amount of pectin in the tomatoes which manufacturers attempt to retain. Nowhere does it state that pectin is added in the process, which is true of jelly.

Not really. Jelly is produced by heating and mixing fruit, sugar and other ingredients. Ketchup, on the other hand, is made from bbq sauce.
