Utah used to have a great mascot. Dressed as a Ute Indian warrior, he would ride a white horse on to the football field before game-time and throw a javelin (spear) across the field. They changed their mascot to a red-tailed hawk over 20 years ago to avoid controversy. But their teams and students are still called Utes.
